who is she?

Like so many others in the world who find self expression in Making (stuff), I spent much of my formative years engaged in the domestic arts. Sewing, knitting, needlework nurtured my artistic inclinations and schooled me in construction. There is a lot to be learned from a Vogue pattern. However, the practical reasons for knitting or sewing were not sustaining-- the fibers and colors were too mesmerizing for workaday purposes! So, a knitted scarf becomes a mass of tentacles that curl swirl . A quilt becomes a broad canvas for surface design, a bas relief.
I also make clay masks. I have always loved the human face-- itself a living mask which often belies the true feelings and thoughts of the at times inscrutable wearer. As a nurse I have encountered many of theses lives masks-- the newborn face, the face in extremis. Pain, joy, grief, foolishness; the jaundiced countenance, awry eye-- the face is object and witness, a hint of the complex, the infinite.
My Stuff consists of works made mostly from fiber (all kinds) and clay ( all kinds). However, I embrace all materials and techniques -- metal, plaster, found objects; image manipulation, felting, fusing. The moon, stars and a fair amount of practical consideration determine the medium and technique I use.
