A Year of Jackie
Everyone has the experience of anticipating that birthday—the one that jolts. Of course, the number is different for everyone. For my sister Jackie it was 45. I wanted to cheer her up. So, I made a card for her birthday—and one for each month of her 45th year. I considered these cards (right) to be a celebration of the Jackie I know who has never changed. At first, she was a bit taken aback. Of course, the photo I chose (circa age 4) was not her favorite. But it seemed to represent the true Jackie—confident, glad to be here, ready for action. After a few months of cards (I am relentless) she started to look forward to them. When the year was almost over—I felt like I needed to end her 45th year and begin her 46th with—a movie: "Jackie Flies to Planet 46". |
